Enough space for the last few weeks

For the last few weeks there has been enough space, but there are still at least 3 junk bikes with heavy layers of dust and missing components. I haven't gotten responses from CD1 or the Security staff, but I haven't asked lately because there has been sufficient space.

Reasons why these bike racks are inconvenient

  • In hot summer weather, it is almost unbearable to stand in this sunny cement corner while carefully clamshelling the rack closed without damaging your bike. Today I just locked up to part of the rack instead of fully closing my bike in.
  • The hinged arm of the rack that is supposed to lock your bike in tends to scratch the 'down-tube' of my bike. There is a welt of missing pait there.
  • The racks are too close to the wall, so it's hard to get both wheels and the frame locked at the same time.
  • You have to reach your hands in a dark place to fasten the lock. I guess it's safe from people on drugs busting open the lock with zeal.
  • There is no curb cut in the sidewalk on the way to the racks, so bicyclists must either dismount and then walk or ride another 100 feet, or they can brave riding through the amtrak bus parking area, which is full of busses backing up.

One Space Remaining at 11 AM

I locked up, leaving no spaces remaining.

Full racks

All the racks have been full with dusty bikes this week. I don't think most of these bikes have owners. Maybe one or two do have owners, but the eight bike racks are almost totally full with abandoned bikes. I haven't been able to park my bike in these racks for the whole week.

I got in touch with the head security guard at Union Station last week, and he said he'd do something about it.

Every time I talk to a security guard, I get a strong sense that they don't feel my concerns are important.

I contacted Ricardo.Monroy@lacity.org in Councilmember Huizar's office. I hope he'll get back to me after the holiday weekend and tell me if I have some options.

Only one space remaining at 7 AM. I locked up to it and left the bike parking area with zero bike parking spaces.
